Makuhari Messe Nippon Convention Center
Makuhari Messe Nippon Convention Center
The Makuhari Messe is a large convention and exhibition center located in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, designed by the famous Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. It was formed by the merger of the International Exhibition Center owned by Chiba Prefecture and its International Conference Center with the Makuhari Event Hall (Makuhariイベントホール). “Makuhari” is the name of the local area, while “Messe” is German for “trade fair”. Located on the coast of Tokyo Bay in Chiba Prefecture, Makuhari is a commercial district adjacent to Tokyo Metropolis. Originally, there was no land called Makuhari, it was just sea. After successful reclamation in the late 1980s, Makuhari appeared as a landmass along the coast of Tokyo Bay in Chiba Prefecture. The new land of Makuhari received special attention from the Chiba Prefectural Government. Its modern architectural style, elevated sky corridors, exquisite pedestrian walkways, and wide roads all demonstrate the unique urban planning.
As a highly modernized business district, Makuhari also has large conference centers, exhibition halls, shopping and dining centers, baseball stadiums, and seaside parks, among other facilities. Covering an area of 210,000 square meters, with 92,000 square meters available for exhibitions. The center of Makuhari is the Makuhari Messe, which is the second largest convention and exhibition center in Japan after Tokyo Big Sight. The Makuhari Messe consists of 11 exhibition halls and conference halls that can accommodate 9,000 people, making it the ideal venue for large trade fairs and technology exhibitions. For example, the annual Tokyo Game Show, and twice a year, the Tokyo Motor Show. In addition, it regularly hosts various large, medium, and small events, meetings, concerts, and solo concerts by artists.
With the Makuhari Messe at its center, several elevated corridors lead outwards. Through these roads, it is convenient to reach nearby hotels, shops, and restaurants. Shopping and dining facilities are mainly distributed around the Seaside Makuhari Station area. The famous Plena Makuhari Shopping Center and Mitsui Outlet Park are also located here. The outlet mall features specialty stores of world fashion brands and accessories. To the north of the station, there are top-class supermarkets such as Carrefour and AEON, home decoration indoor exhibition halls, and the Makuhari Cinema City.
