Passero Associates has expanded the Greek public library by 7,000 square feet, providing design services that have more than tripled the size of the children's library center to over 10,000 square feet. The design emphasizes "learning through play," with interactive three-dimensional elements. The added space also accommodates lower shelves for easy access by young patrons and provides greater room for an expanding collection.

The expansion of the children's library center includes a new multi-functional story and craft room, an outdoor reading terrace, activity spaces, offices, and family restrooms. Passero leveraged its expertise in library design to assist the library in optimizing the processes and flow of the children's library, maximizing employee interaction, sightlines, and the placement of functional elements within the space.

The expansion features a two-story "story garden" filled with perfect blue skies, cloud-like lighting, interactive fairy tale trees, and hobbit-style round doors. The concept of the story garden is combined with the library's young reader program, encouraging growth through reading and play.

The main lighting in the space is designed to resemble a bright summer sky dotted with clouds, evoking a sense of natural elements and the feeling of being in a story garden. The circular lamps are intentionally set at various heights and sizes to resemble a natural sky, serving the functional purpose of creating diffused, non-directional lighting throughout the space.

The story garden concept encourages growth through reading and play, supported by imaginative storytelling while providing practical task lighting and even illumination. The indoor design incorporates natural elements, with the main lighting designed to resemble a bright summer sky filled with white clouds.

The circular lamps are set at different heights and sizes, resembling a natural sky, with the functional goal of creating diffuse, non-directional lighting throughout the space. This allows for future modifications to the library's bookshelves and furniture without creating dark spots or shadows.

The tree, which provides positive play through a vacuum system that transports balls along tracks, triggering lights to glow and music to play, is one of the key game elements in the library. Secret theater-style lighting highlights the playtime element, with spotlights and rings working together to create the effect of sunlight filtering through branches and leaves.
